Year 5 have been classifying mini beasts this week in forest school this week.

This week, some of our children had the exciting opportunity to represent the school at RGS, where they took part in a hockey skills development session. It was a fantastic chance for them to build confidence, improve their technique, and enjoy working alongside pupils from other schools. Well done to everyone who took part – you represented our school brilliantly!

Year 6 enjoyed a minibeast hunt in Forest School on Monday afternoon, where they worked in groups to collect creatures, before grouping them by numbers of legs and then into species. We found lots of spiders, a few woodlice, some slugs, worms and a couple of ladybirds.  We worked well in our groups and were interested to find out more about these tiny creatures. We counted how many of each creature we had found and shared this with our class when we returned to the classroom. This allowed us to see if what we had found matched with what our friends had located. We are very grateful for this chance to explore nature every week and our knowledge of the natural world is definitely growing.

This week in Nursery, we've been exploring the theme of families and friendships. The children have enjoyed reading heartwarming stories about different families and making colourful friendship bracelets. In maths, we've been busy with matching activities—finding pairs of buttons and socks to sharpen our observation skills. Our role play area has transformed into a bustling shoe shop, where the children have taken turns being customers and shopkeepers, trying on shoes and even shining them with great care. They have had lots of fun putting on musical shows too.

To celebrate National Poetry Day and Black History Month, we have enjoyed listening to, and reading, poetry by poet Benjamin Zephaniah.

Year 2 children became scientists this week, investigating the question: Do our feet get bigger as we get older?  After thinking about the human life cycle and how our abilities change as we grow, pupils discussed whether everyone grows the same amount. They decided to collect two key pieces of data—age and shoe size—and worked in pairs to measure and record. Their findings sparked brilliant conversations about growth, genetics, and individuality. With curiosity and teamwork, our young investigators showed fantastic scientific thinking. A wonderful start to our growing topic—well done, Year 2!

We have come to the end of our RE topic learning all about myself.  We drew pictures of ourselves and wrote our names in our topic books.  We talked about our first name and our family names. We looked at them together, said them out loud then cut them up. Then we had to match our first name and last name. We celebrated our learning with a class liturgy. Learning about yourself—your name, your identity, and how to express it through art and writing—is such an important and fun journey, especially at the start of the school year.

Today we celebrated National Poetry Day with a day full of words, rhythm, and imagination. Our day began with sharing poems that we carefully selected during our reading sessions. Each poem brought something new, some were lyrical and gentle, others sharp and playful, but all of them gave us the joy of hearing poetry read aloud by the class. After listening, we explored the different types of poems we had read. From rhyming couplets to free verse, riddles to narrative poems, we discovered that poetry comes in many forms and styles. This sparked some wonderful conversations about how poets use words to capture emotions, ideas, and even puzzles. To end the day, we shared a riddle poem, leaving everyone with something to think about: The beginning of eternity, The end of time and space, The beginning of every end, And the end of every place. From artists and chess masters to future television presenters, Year 5 is a talented class full of stars!

This week, Year 1 parents had a wonderful opportunity to join their children in the classroom for an English lesson. The children proudly demonstrated how they write sentences and showed off their growing vocabulary skills by using tier 2 words confidently. It was a fantastic way for parents to see firsthand the exciting progress their children are making in literacy. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support and celebrate their child’s learning journey!

Our Mini Foodies had a fantastic time last night preparing their very own healthy kebabs! With colourful veggies, juicy fruits, and a lot of imagination, the kids chopped, stacked, and assembled their tasty creations — all while learning about making nutritious choices. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork, and pride in their delicious and healthy snacks. Well done, Mini Foodies — we can’t wait to see (and taste!) what you come up with next!

This week is Recycling Week and we have been completing short tasks focused on the theme 'Reuse me' and 'Recycle Me'. Our Early Years and Year 1 children have been creatively reusing household objects in their crafts, learning how this helps reduce waste. The rest of the school have also been thinking about ways they can reuse and recycle both at school and at home. They have talked about how taking care of our environment is important because it is God’s world , a precious gift we must protect. To keep this spirit alive throughout the year, we will be inviting eco-monitors to help lead and promote recycling and reuse efforts. This ongoing commitment reminds us that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility. By reusing and recycling, we show respect and gratitude for the world God has given us. Together, we can make a real difference in preserving our planet for future generations.
