Drama in Year 3

In Year 3, we have been learning about the writing technique “show, not tell.” Instead of just telling the reader how a character feels, we have been practising how to show emotions through actions, expressions and dialogue.

To help us understand this, we have been using drama in our lessons. One of our favourite activities has been acting out different emotions while the rest of the class tries to guess what feeling is being shown. We had great fun using our faces, body language and movements to show emotions such as excitement, fear and anger.

We enjoyed this activity so much that we now like to end our lessons with a freeze-frame challenge. We act out a chosen emotion and hold our pose while the class guesses what feeling we are showing. It has been a really fun way to help us think about how characters show their feelings in stories.
