English in Year 3

This week, we began an exciting new topic in English: Fear Tales focusing on suspense.

To introduce our new unit, we were shown a mysterious picture of a park at dusk and were given the story starter:

"It is getting dark. You are walking through a park when you hear footsteps behind you..."

We completed a cold write to show what we already know about writing suspense stories before learning new skills and techniques. We were full of fantastic ideas and used our imaginations to think about what might happen next. Some of our stories included mysterious characters, strange noises and unexpected surprises!

We are already enjoying our new topic and are excited to develop our suspense writing skills. Over the next few weeks, we will learn how authors create tension, build atmosphere, describe characters' feelings and use powerful vocabulary to keep readers hooked.

We can't wait to see how our writing develops as we become authors of our own thrilling fear tales focusing on suspense.
