Peter Rabbit

Your childmay have been coming home telling you about Peter Rabbit at school or evensinging the Peter Rabbit song if they are in the younger year groups. So,what’s it all about.

Some of youmay remember seeing Elmer the Elephants or Shaun the Sheep around Newcastle afew years ago, and you might even have done the trial to find them. This summerit is the turn of Peter Rabbit, in celebration of the 160thanniversary of the birth of Beatrice Potter, his creator.

The PeterRabbit trail will be in Newcastle this summer. It is great opportunity to goout and out with the family on the hunt for the rabbits. The rabbits are insupport of St. Oswalds Hospice. The money raised from the trail will supportadult and children’s services and is a good way to spread the message about theimportance of organisations like St. Oswald’s, who are celebrating their 40thanniversary with this trail. You can read more about what they do at StOswald's Hospice | Hospice UK.

So, how didwe do our Peter Rabbit.

This was awhole school project based on the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds, which explores the ideas of creativity, confidence, and resilience. Every child in school decoratedtheir own dot and added their ‘signature’ to it. Some have included aspirationsfor the future. These dots were then reduced. The children have added at leastone dot to Peter but there are duplicate dots of theirs that they can searchfor.

Nursery –green dots on the top of the base.

Reception –pink dots in the ears.

Y1- greendots around the base and on the base top.

Y2, Y3, Y4– blue dots on the coat.

Y5. Y6 –brown dots on the body and head.

In additionto this, the children can be encouraged to find carrots hidden in some of thebrown dots.

If you wantto sing the song, here are the words.

Little Peter Rabbit had a fly upon his nose,
Little Peter Rabbit had a fly upon his nose.
Little Peter Rabbit had a fly upon his nose,
So he flipped it and he flopped it
And the fly flew away.

Floppy ears and curly whiskers,
Floppy ears and curly whiskers,
Floppy ears and curly whiskers,
So he flipped it and he flopped it
And the fly flew away.

We do hopethat you take the opportunity to do the Peter Rabbit trail and take somepictures to share with us.

Have fun!
