Year six have carried out a great hands-on experiment for demonstrating that yeast is a living organism! Our fair experiment involved mixing yeast with warm water and different amounts of sugar, then observing how quickly carbon dioxide is produced (measured by using a balloon over the container and measuring the circumference at 5 minute intervals). The more sugar available, the faster the yeast can respire, producing CO₂ as a byproduct. However we found to much sugar can slow down the production of carbon dioxide.
