This week in Year 1, we have been bringing the story of the Annunciation to life using drama. The children explored the moment the Angel Gabriel visited Mary, thinking carefully about how each character might have felt. Through acting, they were able to deepen their understanding of this important story while building confidence and creativity. Everyone enjoyed stepping into character, working together, and sharing their scenes with the class.

This week, Year 1 took part in a very important lesson all about identity and what makes each of us unique. We were lucky to have a guest speaker join us to talk about racism and why it’s so important to treat everyone with fairness and respect. The children watched a short Sesame Street clip that helped us begin a thoughtful discussion about our differences—such as our interests, families, appearances, and backgrounds. This week in RE, we began our Advent topic by exploring our big question: “Is waiting always difficult?” To help us think about this, we took part in a challenge. Everyone was given one sweet that they could eat straight away — but if they chose to wait for five minutes until the timer finished, they would receive a second sweet. Today, Year 1 celebrated their Purple Treat  with an exciting class party! This special reward was chosen by the children themselves for staying on purple on our class chart — a fantastic achievement for making great choices and having positive attitudes all half term.
