This week in Year 2, we have been continuing to write our very own stories inspired by Jack and the Beanstalk. We started by reading the traditional tale together and talking about the characters, the magical beanstalk, and the giant’s castle in the clouds. This week, Year 2 had lots of fun exploring photography using iPads! The children worked together to learn how to take great photos, including thinking about what makes a picture interesting and clear. They especially enjoyed taking selfies and learned the importance of asking permission before photographing other people. This weekend we celebrate Christ the King, the last feast of the Church year before Advent begins. It’s a time to remember that Jesus is King of the Universe and think about how we can make Him King in our own lives by showing love and kindness every day.  To mark this special occasion, we created a beautiful Christ the King Garden to take to Mass on Saturday evening. Year 2 had a brilliant visit from our community nurses, who led a fun and important session all about keeping our bodies safe. We learned the correct words for body parts and talked about how our bodies belong to us. The children especially loved singing along to the Pantosaurus song, created by the NSPCC to help children understand the PANTS rules. Year 2 have been celebrating this year’s theme, “The Power of Good”, by exploring how kindness can change the world!  We listened to a beautiful poem about being kind, watched Andy and the Odd Socks share their positive message, and made our own superhero finger puppets with our faces – because everyone can be a hero for kindness! This week, Year 2 have begun a magical new journey in English — we’re diving into the world of fairytales, starting with Jack and the Beanstalk ! The children have loved exploring the story’s characters, setting, and surprises, and we’ve already had some brilliant discussions about giants, golden eggs, and brave choices. We had a brilliant end to the half term with our Purple Treat celebration. Everyone came in their cosiest pyjamas, and we made our own popcorn right in the classroom! There were sweets, drinks, and lots of smiles all round. It was a lovely way to celebrate all the hard work this half  term—well done, Year 2!

This week, Year 2 gathered for a special Celebration of the Word to mark the end of our first RE topic: Beginnings. Throughout the topic, we explored the story of Creation, learning how God made the world and everything in it. The children reflected on the beauty of nature, the importance of caring for our world, and how every beginning is a gift from God.
