In science, we have been investigating whether people with longer femurs can jump further than those with shorter femurs. We carefully measured each person’s femur and then recorded how far they could jump. Everyone really enjoyed the investigation and used lots of the scientific vocabulary we’ve been learning to explain our results. Mr Marshall even helped us refine our jumping technique to make sure it was a fair test!

Today Year 3 deepened their understanding of History by learning how people in the Stone Age lit fires. We had the opportunity to explore how to create sparks using flint, and some of us even managed to light a fire ourselves! We had great fun experiencing this in Forest School and discovering how people in the past survived.

Today we had the opportunity to be involved in a powerful session about racism. We had a wonderful visitor come into school who delivered a fun, engaging and thought provoking workshop to deepen our understanding following our discussions during Black History Month. The assembly began with high energy and music, including learning a dance to some of the music we were introduced to. This celebration of culture encouraged us to be curious, joyful and open minded about others. T

In English this half term, we have been learning about fables, focusing on the story The Mouse and the Lion . We have used drama to help us remember the key events, making our lessons fun, active, and engaging. By practising the story through actions, expression, and a detailed story map, we have been able to orally retell the story with great accuracy. This week in school, we have been marking Anti-Bullying Week by focusing on the importance of kindness and how small actions can make a big difference. The children have taken part in discussions and activities about what it means to be kind, how to include others, and ways to show respect in everyday life both in and out of school. Today, Year 3 explored the idea of whether a picture can move. They learned how simple animation works by changing a drawing little by little. Then, they created their own flipbook (flick book) animations using sticky notes to make their pictures appear to move. They had great fun and can’t wait to start creating animations on the iPads next!

Year 3 had a fantastic afternoon for our Purple Treat! We decided to celebrate with a pyjama party and a movie. After lunch, we put on our pyjamas, ready for an afternoon of fun. We started off by playing the ukuleles and dancing to some of the familiar tunes Mr. Rudkin played on his trumpet! Afterwards, we settled down to watch a movie while enjoying popcorn and sweets. It was such a brilliant afternoon, and we can’t wait for the next Purple Treat!

Pat the Hat came to school today to share some wonderful stories. The children were captivated by his exciting stories and lively performances. They joined in with actions, laughter, and questions, making it a magical storytelling experience!
