Year 6 Visiting the Theatre
Year 6 are very excited for their upcoming visit to the Theatre Royal, next Thursday, where they will get the chance to be among the first audience members to see a brand-new musical, based on Shakespeare's Macbeth. We were fortunate enough to be selected to receive complimentary tickets, which is providing our class with a wonderful opportunity for us to experience a live theatre performance. This also fits in really well with the work that many of us have been doing in dr

Electricity - Year 6
Year 6 have had a wonderful time making a start on their new science topic about electricity. They worked so well together using different components to make a range of circuits and their troubleshooting skills and teamwork were second to none. It was brilliant to hear discussion about how to solve problems that arose and every group's willingness to share their ideas and their equipment with others. Well done, Year 6 and we will look forward to learning even more about elect

Feast of the Epiphany
We were proud to see one of our Year 6 children living out our school values on the feast of the Epiphany last week. During a celebration event in her local parish, she served on the altar during mass, and helped with the event by selling raffle tickets, handing out chocolates to the elderly parishioners who attended and even helped with the tidying up afterwards! A great example being set for others of giving our time to serve others.

Science in Year 6
Year six have carried out a great hands-on experiment for demonstrating that yeast is a living organism! Our fair experiment involved mixing yeast with warm water and different amounts of sugar, then observing how quickly carbon dioxide is produced (measured by using a balloon over the container and measuring the circumference at 5 minute intervals). The more sugar available, the faster the yeast can respire, producing CO₂ as a byproduct. However we found to much sugar can sl

Afternoon Tea in Year 6
Year 6 had a fantastic time preparing their own afternoon tea this week. They thoroughly enjoyed planning and making a selection of treats, working enthusiastically throughout the afternoon. The best part, of course, was tasting their creations at the end! We even shared some of the delicious treats with Mrs Yeoman, who was very happy to sample them and give her review. A wonderful and tasty experience for everyone involved!

Anti-Racism Workshop - Year 6
Year 6 took part in a workshop on Monday, following our anti-racism assembly. During the assembly, we danced to some African music, which we took part in enthusiastically. It was also interesting to learn about what racism can look and sound like and how it can make people feel. In our workshop, we listened to a rap song with lyrics that helped us to explore this topic further and we had some brilliant discussion. Our adults in school were extremely proud of our eagerness

RE in Year 6
As part of our learning in RE about the topic of ordination, we were pleased to welcome Father Jonathon and Emmett, who is currently training to be a priest and working in our parish, to our class, where we interviewed them about their vocation. We were really interested to hear about how they knew God was calling them, what training to be a priest involves and what the daily life of a priest is like. It was great to have someone tell us first-hand about this important role

Christ the King Art - Year 6
Year 6 enjoyed working collaboratively on a large piece of art to take to our Parish Takeover Mass to celebrate the feast of Christ the King. We thought about what roots our school in Christ and placed these words at the base of our tree - faith, love, hope and learning. We then decorated leaves with the ways we live like Christ, for example being forgiving, caring and truthful. We added a crown to represent Christ the King and many of us are looking forward to joining our

RE Ambassadors
We are pleased to have some new volunteers in Year 6 for the role of RE Ambassadors. This group will do an important job every week, supporting Mrs Yeoman in preparing and leading our whole-school Celebration of the Word. Tasks include greeting our classes, reading and setting up the prayer space, as well as helping with IT. We are very proud of our RE Ambassadors for giving up their break time on a Monday to help with this special job. This week, we are celebrating the fe

The Conaty Awards
At the end of last half term. Mrs Yeoman attended the Conaty Awards at the Lighthouse Project, where she enjoyed seeing the hard work and talents of so many people being recognised and celebrated, in memory of our late Parish Priest, Father Michael Conaty . It was particularly pleasing to see one of our Year 6 pupils, Rosalie, doing brilliantly in her dance performance. We look forward to taking part in these wonderful celebrations again in the future.

An Exciting Week for Years 5 and 6
Years 5 and 6 have had an exciting week. They began the week by toasting marshmallows, which was a great way to bring our Forest School sessions to an end. We have all thoroughly enjoyed our outdoor learning this half term. This was followed by a wonderful visit to Beamish on Wednesday, where we were able to enjoy some interactive learning in history. We particularly enjoyed our workshop, where we interviewed characters to help us decide whether women and children should hav
